ARIES promotes sustainable innovation at SOMMa Connect 2026

BC3 took part this week in SOMMa Connect 2026, the meeting organised in Barcelona by the Severo Ochoa Alliance of Centres of Excellence and María de Maeztu Units of Excellence (SOMMa), alongside the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG).

Antonella de Ceano-Vivas, member of ARIES (ARtificial Intelligence for Environment & Sustainability) team, gave a presentation on Tuesday 22 September on the financial potential of nature and the ARIES project to advance research and innovation into solutions based on environmental sustainability.

She took part in a panel of experts dedicated to exploring innovative projects in the agri-food and clean technology sectors, aimed at the investment and business community. In addition to Antonella de Ceano-Vivas, representatives from other organisations took part in the session, including the Institute for Research into Nutrition and Food Safety, the Institute of Chemical Technology (ITQ), the Centre for Plant Biotechnology and Genomics (CBGP) and the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology.

One of the key focuses of SOMMa Connect 2026 has been to showcase the innovative and technology transfer potential of the centres and units that form part of SOMMa. The programme has provided an opportunity to discover projects and technologies developed at institutions such as BC3 and to explore their potential for fostering new collaborations with companies, technology transfer agreements, investment opportunities or new business ventures.

Representatives from some of the leading institutions that promote and fund innovation in Spain and Europe, including the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI), the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the European Innovation Council (EIC) and the European Investment Fund (EIF), attended the event, alongside investors, companies and organisations linked to the innovation and technology transfer ecosystem.
