The NanoPhysics Group at the Materials Physics Center (CFM-MPC, San Sebastián, Spain), together the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC), is offering a PhD position focused on the development of novel hybrid quantum materials through the intercalation of functional molecules and ions into layered van der Waals crystals.

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our research team investigating to explore how molecular and ionic intercalation can be used to engineer fundamental properties such as magnetism, superconductivity, and electronic transport. The PhD candidate will be involved in the complete research cycle, from the synthesis of intercalated materials to their integration into functional devices. Research activities will include the preparation of hybrid materials through intercalation, structural characterization using techniques such as X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy, and the investigation of their magnetic and electronic properties through magnetotransport and low-temperature measurements.
The candidate will gain hands-on experience in nanofabrication techniques, device design, and low-temperature electrical measurements, with the goal of investigating emergent phenomena in superconducting and magnetic systems and assessing their potential for future electronic, neuromorphic, and quantum technologies.
The project lies at the interface of materials science, chemistry and condensed matter
physics, providing comprehensive training in advanced materials synthesis, device
fabrication, and experimental characterization of quantum materials.
