Job Summary
he Quantum Phenomena on Surfaces Group at CFM is offering a predoctoral position (1
year) starting in 1 st May 2026 to work with Nicolás Lorente, in the development of quantum
algorithms and practical applications for the study of quantum batteries.

The positions will be funded by the BasQ program. The selected candidate will be hired by
the Research Association MPC - Materials Physics Center. The salary will be of 19.007,22
euros year before taxes.
The Quantum Phenomena on Surfaces Group at the Center of Materials Physics addresses
low-dimensional condensed matter systems like the ones studied by the scanning tunneling
microscope on surfaces, with special attention to quantum control and quantum
computations. Current research topics in the group include density functional theory
calculations of atomic and molecular systems on surfaces, inclusion of electronic
correlations such as the Kondo effect, inelastic processes of tunneling electrons, the
problem of magnetic impurities on solids, surface superconductivity, designer quantum
states, Majorana physics and topological superconductivity, magnetic-impurity electron spin
resonance, quantum control, time crystals, ergodic spin phases, quantum chaos, and

Candidates must hold a University degree in Physics Predoc CFM-Quantum batteries.
Expertise in quantum mechanics and quantum computation will be highly appreciated for
this particular position, as well as background in numerical calculations.
