The Vice-rectorate for Research and International Relations along with the Applied Ethics (EARS) research team at the University of Deusto are seeking postdoctoral candidates to join the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities in Bilbao. This position supports research in the fields of Ethics and Technology and Ethics of Organizations, with a particular focus on the ethical impacts of artificial intelligence on the development of democratic communities. The role involves analysing risks posed by digitalisation to liberal democracies and developing ethically informed governance models for AI. This three-year position offers a platform to combine academic excellence with social relevance within a multidisciplinary framework. We seek a motivated scholar to start on 1 September 2026.

Key Responsibilities:
Research Execution: Analyse the diverse risks that the digitalisation of social, economic, political, and administrative processes poses to liberal democracies.
Governance Modelling: Develop an ethically informed governance model for the design and implementation of artificial intelligence at the service of democratic relations.
Project Development: Contribute to the development of new competitive grant proposals focused on democracy, social media, and technology.
Scientific Publication: Jointly publish scientific articles in high-impact academic journals. Co-authorship with other members of the research group is a requirement.
Independent Leadership: Design and lead independent research projects that involve collaboration with other team members.

Requirements and Expectations:
Academic Background: A PhD degree is mandatory. Applicants who completed their PhD in 2023 or later are especially encouraged to apply.
Technical Expertise: Familiarity with the field of Artificial Intelligence and a proven track record related to the ethics of techno-scientific phenomena.
Methodological Skills: Proficiency in conducting social science research within interdisciplinary fields such as ethics, technology, or social sciences.
Language Skills: Full professional proficiency in both written and oral Spanish and English.
Evaluation Criteria: Quality and relevance of scientific publications, experience in research projects, and participation in international research stays (minimum four weeks).
Professional Competencies: Ability to work in a team, empathy, motivation for innovation, and alignment with the mission of the University of Deusto.
Benefits:
Contract Duration: A fixed-term contract for a period of 3 years.
Competitive Salary: Annual gross allocation between 37,000 and 41,000 EUR, distributed into 15 monthly instalments, depending on the candidate's experience.
Category: Professional recruitment under the Associate Researcher (Investigador/a Asociado/a) category.
Academic Environment: Integration into the Applied Ethics (EARS) research group at the Bilbao campus.
