Job Summary
The Center for Cooperative Research in Biomaterials, CIC biomaGUNE, together with Ikerbasque, invites applications for a Senior Researcher’s position in Artificial Intelligence (AI) applied to Medical Imaging. The Molecular and Functional Imaging Facility at CIC biomaGUNE, designated as a Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS) in 2011, is part of the Distributed Network for Biomedical Imaging (ReDIB). This facility is unique in the Basque Country and Spain and stands out as one of the most advanced preclinical imaging research infrastructures in Europe.
Job Description
We are looking for experienced and motivated candidates with a strong track record in AI applied to image processing to join our team in the Molecular and Functional Imaging Facility. The successful candidate is expected to play a dual role that combines implementation of AI tools with independent research leadership. The candidate will drive AI integration across the full imaging pipeline, including MRI, PET, SPECT, CT, optical imaging, and potentially ultrasound modalities, in close collaboration with ongoing imaging-based research projects and teams at CIC biomaGUNE. Moreover, the candidate is expected to develop and drive independent research projects in the field of AI for medical and preclinical imaging, advancing computational methods, and contributing to the scientific output and innovation capacity of the facility.
The successful candidate must have expertise in AI and image analysis, preferably with experience in biomedical or medical imaging, and an established record of excellence research in this area. The candidate is expected to have the capacity to collaborate across research teams and disciplines, to build internal and external collaborations, to mentor early career researchers, and to generate and transfer technology.
Candidates should submit the following information:
- Cover Letter
- Curriculum Vitae
- Detailed description of research interests, research plan, and vision and approach for implementing AI tools across the imaging pipeline.
- Contact information of three colleagues who can provide reference letters
Women candidates are particularly welcome.
Strategic Relevance and Impact of the Position:
This position will be key to enhancing CIC biomaGUNE’s Imaging Facility by integrating advanced AI tools into imaging workflows. The researcher will boost scientific output through intelligent, scalable, and reproducible data analysis, while fostering internal coordination, external collaboration, training, and technological integration. The role will strengthen the center’s competitiveness and contribute to the biomedical research ecosystem in the Basque Country.
