Job Description

We are looking for a candidate to carry out a doctoral thesis within the framework of the European Project related to the potential of Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHCs) through the development of key sustainable and efficient systems for dehydrogenation (UnLOHCked) of LOHCs generated from renewable sources.

H2 storage based on LOHCs are a promising solution for heavy-duty refuelling stations and temporary setups, aiming at scalability and efficiency, with high turnover and capacity demands, particularly of trucks, trains, and ships, through will embed these technologies into existing infrastructures, ensuring they can meet the dynamic storage and delivery needs of residential quarters, industrial processes, and off-grid communities.
Biomass can serve as a renewable energy source that can replace fossil fuels and reduce GGEs. Moreover, the use of LOHCs from biomass offers a safer and more efficient way to transport and store H2 compared to CH2 and LH2. Therefore, efficient, selective, and stable catalysts will be developed for the production of renewable LOHCs, particularly focusing on improving the yield and selectivity of toluene from biomass.
The project is framed within the activities of the SuPrEn research group (https://www.ehu.eus/es/web/supren), Consolidated Group recognized by the Basque Government and UnLOHCked project.
