Job Summary

A funded predoctoral research position is available at the Laboratory of Neuroimaging and Biomarkers of Inflammation under the supervision of Dr. Abraham Martín to do develop a PhD thesis in Theragnostic targeting MMPS and BBB after stroke.

Job Description

The project will be developed within the recently granted ERA-NET Neuron project IMatrix. The main goal of the PhD project will be the exploration and validation of the diagnostic and therapeutic potential of MMPs using smart 19F nanoprobes after preclinical stroke. The candidate will participate in a translational project, in the frame of an international consortium involving experts from Spain, France, Germany and Hungary, aimed to investigate the role of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) on the secondary ischemic damage and blood-brain barrier (BBB) dysfunction. The project will use stroke models in rodents and a battery of molecular imaging techniques (Positron emission tomography (PET), Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Confocal and 2-Photon microscopy) together with application of nanoprobes, ex vivo molecular biology, and immunohistochemical techniques

Specific Requirements

Applicants must have a degree in Biology, Biochemistry or similar and a Master that gives access to PhD programmes. Background in animal models, imaging sciences and biomedicine will be positively valued. Applicants should have a good academic record, good communication skills, a strong passion and commitment to science, and work well within a group. Knowledge of written and spoken English is also needed.
