Job Summary
PREDOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION IN THE POLYMERS AND SOFT MATTER GROUP: LARGE-SCALE SIMULATIONS OF POLYMER-GRAFTED NANOPARTICLES
Job Description
The Polymers and Soft Matter Group at CFM is offering a predoctoral position (1+1+1 years) starting by June/July 2023 to work with Dr. Angel Moreno (CFM), in collaboration with Prof. Christos Likos (University of Vienna) and Dr. Fabienne Barroso-Bujans (Donostia International Physics Center) in the topic “Large-Scale Simulations of Polymer-Grafted Nanoparticles”. The aim of this project is to investigate systematically, by means of large-scale molecular dynamics simulations, the structural and thermodynamic properties of nanoparticles grafted with polymers of different topologies. The investigated topologies will include linear chains, rings and hyperbranched chains. Some of the aspects to investigate are the scaling behaviour of the polymer brushes, their collapse in bad solvent conditions, the validity of the effective potential approach (reduction of the system to a fluid of single-particles interacting through the averaged monomer-monomer interactions), and the phase behaviour (including aspects as crystallization, aggregation or demixing).
The position will be funded by MCIN and by the European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTR-C17.I1, as well as by IKUR Strategy under the collaboration agreement between Ikerbasque Foundation and DIPC on behalf of the Department of Education of the Basque Government.
The selected candidate will be hired by the Research Association MPC - Materials Physics Center. The salary will be of 17.398,20 euros during the first year before taxes.
