Job Summary
POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION IN THE NANOPHYSICS LAB. GROUP
(Experimental fabrication and characterization of novel two-dimensional materials: the metal dihalides family)
Job Description
The Nanophysics Lab. Group at CFM is offering a postdoctoral position (1+1 years) starting in March 2023 to work with Dr. Celia Rogero and Dr. Martina Corso in collaboration with Dr. Aran García Lekue at DIPC, who provides the theoretical support.
In this project the postdoctoral candidate will study a new class of 2DM, the magnetic semiconductors 2D Transition Metal di-Halides (TMH2) that exhibit a readiness procedure compatible with actual silicon microfabrication processes. Moreover, their magnetic properties make these materials very appealing for their implementation in devices of different topologies. Thus, the postdoctoral candidate will experimentally investigate the growth, the morphology and the electronic and magnetic properties of different types of TMH2 with or without molecules on top using the most powerful ultra high vacuum techniques (including STM, LEED, XPS)
The candidate will perform XPS/ARPES measurements at the MPC laboratories as well as participate to synchrotron measurements. Moreover, the LMA (Laboratorio de Microscopias Avanzadas, Zaragoza) via the “SPM area service” provided by the Aragones INMA institute will host the postdoc for microscopy/spectroscopy measurements at the atomic scale at low temperatures, in collaboration with INMA staff (Jorge Lobo and David Serrate). In Zaragoza, the local electronic structure of the TMH2 films will be studied by state-of-the-art low temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy and the magnetic fingerprints will be unraveled by spin-polarized STM whenever possible.
The positions will be funded by MCIN and by the European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTR-C17.I1, as well as by IKUR Strategy under the collaboration agreement between Ikerbasque Foundation and DIPC on behalf of the Department of Education of the Basque Government.
The selected candidate will be hired by the Research Association MPC - Materials Physics Center. The salary will be of 35.650,44 euros during the first year before taxes.
The Nanophysics Lab. Group at the Center of Materials Physics applies the synthesis of atomically perfect materials to practical problems of technological and industrial interest, aligned with current societal challenges. For more information, visit our web: http://cfm.ehu.es/nanophysicslab
