The Basque Center on Cognition Brain and Language (BCBL) in San Sebastián (Basque Country, Spain) is offering a 2-year funded post-doctoral opportunity. The post-doctoral researcher will work on a research project within the Neurolinguistics and Aphasia research group (PI: Dr. Simona Mancini) focusing on the role of blood-brain barrier and molecular biomarkers in predicting language and cognitive recovery after stroke, in collaboration with University Hospital Cruces/Biocruces (Dr. María del Mar Freijo Guerrero), Achucarro - Basque Center for Neuroscience (Dr. Abraham Martín Muñoz) and CIC biomaGUNE (Prof. Pedro Ramos Cabrer).
The project is part of the main research lines developed within a national network (RICORS-ICTUS) funded by the Carlos III Health Institute for the study of clinical aspects of stroke and its prognosis.
The selected candidate will be involved in the neuroanatomical mapping of the blood-brain barrier disruption following clinical stroke using CT imaging.
The selected candidate must have excellent programming skills using Python, R, Java, Matlab, C++ or similar languages. Experience in the field of MRI will be a plus.
The researcher will have the opportunity to be involved in a translational research project where clinical research, neuroimaging and basic research groups collaborate, and will have access to cutting-edge research facilities at BCBL, including MEG, EEG, fMRI, eye-tracking and psychophysics laboratories.
Excellent organization and communication skills are required to contribute towards the dissemination of the results at international scientific conferences (presentations/posters) and peer-reviewed journals.
PI and research group: the selected candidate will be integrated in the Neurolinguistics and Aphasia Group (https://www.bcbl.eu/en/research/research-groups/neurolinguistics-aphasia) led by Dr. Simona Mancini (s.mancini@bcbl.eu) and will work closely with Dr. A. Martín Muñoz (Laboratory of Neuroimaging and Biomarkers of Inflammation, Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience, Bilbao) and Prof. P. Ramos Cabrer (Molecular Imaging Unit, CICbiomaGUNE, Donostia-San Sebastián).
