Job Summary

The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), offers a full-time postdoctoral position, to work in the project PALIMPSEST (Creative drivers for sustainable living heritage landscapes). PALIMPSEST is a HORIZON-CL2-2022-HERITAGE-01-10 funded project, on the topic The New European Bauhaus – shaping a greener and fairer way of life in creative and inclusive societies through Architecture, Design and Arts. The main goal is to explore heritage landscapes sustainability transition drivers, in three pilot cases (Spain, Italy and Poland). Within this goal, BC3 will be working in the Development and implementation of an environmental and sustainability assessment framework.

 The project is hosted at COLLAB (sciencecollab.org), a research team at BC3 devoted to study collective processes of decision-making and knowledge coproduction. The work will be supported by an interdisciplinary team of researchers, from the fields of climate change science and adaptation, biodiversity conservation, design and arts, who are looking forward to welcoming a new member.

Key responsibilities:

 This new member will: 

Manage the development, including its design and implementation, of a co-assessment framework to monitor landscape services.
Propose and develop a module on environmental sustainability assessment.
Organize and support cross-cutting inter- and trans-disciplinary dialogues among diverse groups
Develop co-production workshops together with scientists, artists and stakeholders
Support the project from the perspectives of natural environment, climate change and adaptation.
Publish high-impact, peer-reviewed research in international scientific journals.
Contribute to a dynamic research team within COLLAB at BC3

Main requirements/skills:

 The candidate must have a strong knowledge in both the inter- and transdisciplinary aspects of climate sciences as well as knowledge coproduction. We are looking for a researcher with doctoral studies in fields like, environmental sciences, biodiversity conservation, or social sciences. Other fields can be considered given that the candidate has the right interdisciplinary expertise.

The candidate must have knowledge and expertise in using participatory social science methodologies, and be able to work in inter-disciplinary research teams that include scientists, artists, architects and designers, and also with a diversity of stakeholders. Since, a great part of the work will entail working with people, applicants must have excellent interpersonal as well as communication skills (both written and oral) in English. They also must be willing to travel to different pilot cases for conducting fieldwork.

The applicants should demonstrate evidence of a track record in peer-reviewed publications as well as ability to initiate and complete research characterized by originality, creativity and innovation and in collaboration with other team members.

Desirable requirements/skills:

Previous experience in organizing and supporting the coordination of stakeholder meetings and workshops. Statistics/econometric modeling.
