The Basque Center on Cognition Brain and Language (BCBL) in San Sebastián (Basque Country, Spain) is offering a 4-year funded PhD opportunity. The position is not linked to a specific project; the PhD student will work on research projects with the Speech and Bilingualism research group. In the group, we aim to explore factors impacting speech production and perception in L1 and L2, and factors influencing and optimizing L2 speech sound and word learning. We are currently running a large-scale ERC project exploring the interplay between phonology and orthography in speech perception and production in various populations (children and adults; typically-developing or with reading and/or hearing impairments; monolinguals and bilinguals).
Job description: The selected candidate will be responsible for leading his/her own research projects from beginning to end, under supervision: developing research ideas, designing and running experiments, analyzing data, reporting results by writing up research articles and presenting at international conferences. The candidate will be encouraged to collaborate with researchers at the BCBL at all stages of their career (predoctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and established researchers) by taking part in weekly group and lab meetings, seminars of external speakers, specific interest groups, etc. The candidate can develop behavioral and/or neuroimaging experiments, taking advantage of neuroimaging facilities at the BCBL (e.g., EEG, eye-tracking, MEG, fMRI).
PI and research group: The candidate will join the Speech and Bilingualism research group (https://www.bcbl.eu/en/research/research-groups/speech-bilingualism) led by Prof. Clara Martin (c.martin@bcbl.eu), who will also be the main supervisor.
Salary: 16.640€ gross/year (year 1 and 2); 17.830€ gross/year 3; 22.290€ gross/year 4
