The Basque Center on Cognition Brain and Language (BCBL) in San Sebastián (Basque Country, Spain) is offering a 4-year funded PhD opportunity. The PhD student will work on a research projects with the Consciousness research group. We are developing new protocols to understand the distinction between conscious and non-conscious information processing in the human brain, and its role in guiding cognition and behaviour. Our research encompasses multiple domains, including perceptual selection, learning and memory, and metacognition - our ability to monitor and control our own cognitive processes. We study these topics by combining advanced brain imaging procedures (i.e. real time fMRI) with psychophysical tasks and state-of-the-art computational methods.
Job description: The selected candidate will develop and test novel behavioural paradigms (i.e. psychophysics) and neuroimaging experiments (i.e. fMRI) to investigate consciousness and metacognition. The selected candidate will also have the opportunity to develop original experiments under the supervision and guidance of the PIs. The candidate must have excellent organization and communication skills to contribute towards the dissemination of the results at international scientific conferences (presentations/posters) and peer-reviewed journals.
PI and research group: candidate will form part of the Consciousness research group (https://www.bcbl.eu/en/research/research-groups/consciousness) led by Prof. David Soto (d.soto@bcbl.eu), who will be the main supervisor.
