Job Summary
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship to work at the Bionanoplasmonics Laboratory of CIC biomaGUNE (San Sebastián, Spain), under the supervision of Prof. Luis Liz-Marzán, in collaboration with Prof. Johan Hofkens, at KU Leuven (Belgium).
Job Description
The main objective of the proposed research is to design and develop methods for the colloidal synthesis of metal nanoparticles with tailored morphologies and dimensions, for applications in optical manipulation.
Specific objectives of this work are:
(i) Synthesis of monodisperse gold nanorods with extended aspect ratio.
(ii) Synthesis of sub-micron colloidal gold spheres, rods and decahedra.
(iii) Surface coating with silica shells of varying thickness.
Education Level:
Master’s degree in a relevant area of Chemistry, Materials Science, Nanoscience, or related areas is required.
Skills:
Experience in the fields of colloidal synthesis and characterization is highly desirable.
