2 PhD positions available in the Carbon Bionanotechnology Group

Job Summary

Applications are invited for 2 PhD studentships to work at CICbiomaGUNE in the Carbon Bionanotechnology group led by Prof. Maurizio Prato. The projects available focus on developing carbon based nanoparticles with different chemical and physical properties, suitable for bio-applications (i.e. medical imaging, drug delivery, bio-sensing).

Job Description

Succesful candidates will work on highly multidisciplinary projects, involving design, synthesis and characterization of multifunctional carbon based materials and relative biological studies. Therefore, the candidate will interact with experts in different disciplines, spanning from synthetic chemistry to cell biology, from photochemistry to medical imaging, and with the opportunity to employ a wide range of characterization and purification methods (i.e. optical spectroscopy, AFM, TEM, XPS, SEM, HPLC, gel electrophoresis, etc) and biology procedures (i.e. cell biology studies, confocal microscopy, medical imaging by MRI and/or PET/SPECT). CIC biomaGUNE in San Sebastian is a leading research centre in the area of bionanomaterials and molecular imaging, recognized (2018) as a Centre of Excellence in the Severo Ochoa/Maria Maeztu program (the highest recognition of scientific excellence in Spain awarded by the Spanish State Research Agency). The centre offers a highly international environment, with vibrant weekly scientific seminars given by leading experts in biomaterials and nanomedicine. Research stay periods abroad are strongly encouraged for PhD students.

Required Education Level:

Master’s degree in Chemistry, (bio/nano) Material Science, or any relevant related area, is required.


Required Skills/Qualifications:

A background/strong interest in synthetic chemistry and purification/characterization methods is required.

Interest in learning and/or experience in cell biology studies are desirable. Possibility to access to in vivo studies will be considered depending on projects and interest of the candidate.

Fluent level of English is madatory.
