DESCRIPTION OF THE INSTITUTION:

CIC energiGUNE is a research center specialized in energy, electrochemical storage (batteries and supercapacitors), thermal energy solutions and hydrogen, a member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance- BRTA and a strategic initiative of the Basque Government. POSITION DESCRIPTION:

CIC energiGUNE is seeking an engineer/researcher to lead a research group devoted to the design, characterization and cell integration of inorganic electrode and electrolyte materials for Li and Post-Li batteries.

The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing the synthesis, structural characterization, and measurement of ionic and electronic transport properties of inorganic electrolyte and electrode materials. The projects the candidate will be responsible for will lead to the development of solid-state cathodes using ceramic electrolytes, assembly and testing of solid-state cells, as well as to deepen the understanding of reaction mechanisms of chemical, electrochemical and mechanical degradation of electrode and electrolyte components during operation.

As the selected candidate will be responsible for leading and coordinating the research activities of a group of professionals, applying for this position requires demonstrated management and mentoring experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Providing technical direction and execution in the design and development of ceramic solid electrolytes for integration in all-solid-state batteries.
• Providing technical direction and execution in the design and development of inorganic electrode materials for Li and Post-Li batteries.
• Leading various research activities such as writing research proposals, project execution/reporting/management, writing high quality scientific research papers, and presenting results at scientific conferences.
• Supporting the strategic long-term research in agreement with the views of the area´s Scientific Director and the Technology Coordinator, as well as those of the CIC.
• Overseeing team member’s hiring and professional development processes.
• Mentoring researchers as undergraduate and graduate students, predoctoral reserchers as well as postdoctoral fellows.
• Developing strategic partnerships and collaborations.
• Pursuing the development of intellectual property to protect technology advancements and secure a competitive position.

Specific Requirements

• PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Ceramics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Basic knowledge of electrochemistry.
• Strong, hands-on battery research experience supported by a good record of publications.
• Robust theoretical foundation in synthesis, chemical and structural characterization of inorganic solids.
• Deep understanding of structure-property relationships.
• Experience in sulfide chemistry will be highly valued.
• Ability to identify and solve technical challenges.
• Ability to justify intellectual and technical decisions based on scientific results.
• Willingness to learn new skills or approach a new field of study.
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Demonstrated self-motivation and ability to work independently.
• A good team player who can collaborate with peers in the academic and industry sectors.
